Well, those four magical mystery tour leaders, otherwise known as Dave and Betsy Crook and Bob and Monica Clark, took us on a nice, long, winding tour of all the spring blooms. They were ably assisted by the rest of the band, Ray and Judy McIntosh, who with a laugh and a smile each took on the unenviable job of bringing up the rear and making sure not one of the tour group got lost. The six of them were the hosts with the most as they greeted each and every one at the meeting place and thanked each and every one as we got ready to head home. Betsy even went above and beyond, bringing bathroom supplies for the potty stop in case, as is often the case, the facilities were not up to par.

There were 31 vehicles at the starting point, 30 Corvettes and the Buote/Nagle “tour bus.” We had the new faces of Armando and Christie Patron (who had done the Lou Long-led run during the summer), Frank and Samantha Caliandro, and Ann and Tom Lontz. They all left with application forms in hand so we are hoping this was the first of many times we will see them. Marilyn Glenore and Marsue Page drove together in the Glenore car, since both Doug and Steve were otherwise occupied. Some faces we hadn’t seen in a while joined us – Norm and Ronette Craig and Mike and Micha Grayson. Also good to see all of them on a nice long ride. New members, Gary and Joyce Downing, were also part of the tour. Darlena Stevens had the Spring spirit with the lovely blue streaks in her hair – if you missed them, there is a photo in the pics.

After the drivers’ meeting, we all rushed for the exit and followed the leader around various parts of Temecula, over to Rainbow Canyon Road and over to Old Highway 395. We passed all the growing grounds in Rainbow and the outskirts of Fallbrook and Bonsall, full of colorful plants. Then we turned onto the aptly named Lilac Road and drove through the Lilac area, with all its blooming yards and fields. We passed all the heavily scented citrus orchards on the way to and through Valley Center and then made our potty stop at the San Pasqual Battlefield State Park. When the Buotes arrived ahead of us, the gates were still closed, but the ranger knew this was a magical mystery tour and he magically appeared to open them for us. We did not need Betsy’s basket of supplies after all, but took the time to chat and stretch our legs before returning to Highway 78, turning on Highway 67 and heading in the direction of Poway. The next part of the Spring Bloom Tour took us through a beautiful residential area with lovely yards and gardens. Then we took some more left turns, not easy to do with 31 cars, but we got plenty of practice today, and ended up at Kaminski’s BBQ and Sports Lounge on Poway Road. They were all set up for us and everyone chowed down on ribs, chicken, pulled pork, or if they were being good, salads.

.

All in all, it was a most magical and successful day on the road with a whole tour group of good friends, driving on beautiful roads, through the beautiful countryside, in beautiful cars. Satisfaction was guaranteed and everyone was certainly satisfied. Thanks to the Crooks, the Clarks and the McIntoshes for all their hard work and thoughtful preparation.

See you on the next adventure, which Jim Sommars guarantees will be XL and extra good as well!!
